Looking back throughout photographs of the 2013 project from Tetsuya Umeda, Leiko Shiga, and Contact Gonzo in Aomori. The installation in Mori-no-Hotel, an abandoned hotel in the woods just outside of Towada city, served as their collective response to the 2011 Great East Earthquake as well as a sideways look at remote communities slowly disappearing throughout the country. Photos were taken during the press tour for first, and so far only, triennale at the Towada Art Center entitled SURVIVE! Fisheries Rest House was one of several remote exhibitions which extended the museum space beyond Towada city and out into the rural landscape of Aomori prefecture.
